Michael S. CHen, M.Div
“Narrative work is subversive…Where problems and patterns have saturated the story, we need others to come with kindness to attend to our past that we might have more authority in the present, and more hope for the future.”
Michael is the son of Taiwanese immigrants and through reclaiming his identity and cultural heritage as a discipleship process, has found that kindness and curiosity has led to profound transformation and a desire to see beauty, creativity, and defiant hope emerge in the lives of others.
Recruited to play ice hockey at Dartmouth College, he discovered a passion for ministry, earned a degree (A.B.) in sociology, and eventually attended Princeton Seminary for his Master of Divinity. He is a current PhD student at Eastern University in the Marriage and Family Therapy program.
He has been a leader in campus ministry and for 15 years; in working with several different organizations and congregations, his focus has been on pastoral counseling individuals and couples through anxiety, addiction, self-esteem, differentiation within family systems, racial identity, and issues surrounding calling and vocation.
He also has experience with racial trauma resolution and is certified in Narrative Focused Trauma Care from the Allender Center of the Seattle School of Psychology and Theology where he serves as Adjunct Faculty.
He lives in Philadelphia, PA with his wife, Rachael, two sons Jamison and Silas, and daughter Evelyn.
